Hallo.
Name's Tom. Peeping Tom. Last night I fulfilled my wildest dreams of livejournal voyeurism. I lurked, and read, and left a couple comments. I have to admit, it was fun. Ali, your journal entries are exhilarating. I mean...
So I've been urged to once again update lj and use it as a way to stay in touch. Sounds good. Although, just last week I discovered the wonders of web blogs. Talk about voyeurism, people put their whole lives on the internet. Not that I'm complaining, just, don't they realize there are weirdos out there?
So, I'm something like 80 days away from graduating. In the fall when friends started mentioning they already had jobs lined up at Morgan Stanley and Legg Mason, my stomach would turn and I would suddenly get really tired. But I'd have to smile and say, heyyy, that's wonderful, and secretly hate them, but myself more. I realized not only did I not have a resume or the faintest idea of what I want to do with my life, but I also lacked any desire whatsoever to take part in the job hunting, ass-kissing, professionalism game that is finding an entry-level job. That was then, this is now. I'm proud to say that the other day I decided not only what I'm going to do with my summer, but also what I want to do for a job.
So this summer I'm going to find a sustainable farming apprenticeship on an organic farm in Washington state. Yep, the west coast. Back to my farming roots for some hands-on, rewarding hard work. I feel like I need some after listening to all these bourgeois blatherings. Anyway, the plan is to spend lots of time outside and maybe do some travelling out west. I'm excited and relieved of my incessant worrying. The best part is I don't need a resume to get a farming job. If they ask for one I can just send them some heady organic soil and worm castings.
I also realized the other day that Patrick Leahy is the overman. He is my new role model, and perhaps, personal savior. That being said, I'm going to get involved in reforming American drug policy, and along with that prisons and schools. While reading a blog by Walter Cronkite I learned about the Drug Policy Alliance. That's my calling, I think.
I'm exhausted right now. Trying to decide whether to drink some coffee or take a nap. Typing is sucking. I'll update again soon. Or as the governator says: Cally-fornia. Verily.

exhilarating is a word for it....
I am so thrilled to hear that you will not be joining the ranks of morgan stanley etc etc boooooooooring. The west coast seems far more appropriate and rewarding.Patrick Leahy is my own personal hero as well. What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man.
ahhh.

And then there's all that political stuff, too, I guess. Yeah, he's alright.
